DC (Direct Current) Power Technology (Rackable Systems 2006) - "By distributing redundant direct current (DC) power to each server - and replacing the standard AC power supply with a far more reliable and efficient DC power supply - approximately 20 to 40% of the thermal load is shifted outside the server to AC-to-DC rectifiers, which can easily be installed at the top of the cabinet or externally near an HVAC unit.  As a result, server reliability is increased by as much as 27%, and monthly power costs are reduced by up to 30%."  - [PDF: 991 KB].  Operational Expenses (OpEx) analysis and savings can be found here - [PDF: 119 KB].

SiCortex Technical Summary (SiCortex 2006) - "The SC5832, which is a 5.8 Teraflop system with up to 8 Terabytes of memory. The SC5832 fits into a single cabinet and draws 18 KW (of power)".  Extremely power-efficient, air-cooled cluster super-computer (5,832 processor cores).  And they have a medium and a small version too  - [PDF: 592 KB].  A very cool demo can be found here.

64 Core Processors (LinuxDevices.com and Henry Kingman 2007) - Dual Core or Quad Core Wars? 8 Core CPUs? Forget them all; how about 64 cores on a single die?  - [PDF: 294 KB].

ExaScale Computing Study: Technology Challenges in Achieving ExaScale Systems (DARPA 2008) - "This document reflects the thoughts of a group of highly talented individuals from universities, industry, and research labs on what might be the challenges in advancing computing by a thousand-fold by 2015." - [PDF: 2,183 KB]
